Relato de prova : Big Biker Cup'11 #2 - São Luiz do Paraitinga / SP

 

Chegamos na cidade de São Luiz do Paraitinga no sábado e logo amei esse lugar. São Luiz do Paraitinga é uma pequena cidade situada sobre um rio, rodeada por colinas e florestas que o torna um paraíso para mountain bike. A atmosfera na cidade era típica como qualquer cidade que tem um evento de mountain bike, com a praça da cidade cheia de estandes das lojas e dos fabricantes de bicicletas. Muitos mountain bikers estavam curtindo, pegando seus numerais e comprando os itens de última hora, como géis e suplementos para a corrida. Todos estavam muito animados com os pensamentos da corrida e também podíamos sentir essa emoção no ar. Para aliviar um pouco o nervosismo da corrida e relaxar as pernas, no sábado à tarde eu pedalei os primeiros 30 minutos do percurso da prova com 3 amigos, Giulliano, Katia e Luiz. Naquela noite, fomos para a cama cedo depois de comer uma refeição de massa agradável.
No
dia da corrida acordamos cedo e pedalamos 2km a partir de nossa casa até à área de partida. Muitos bikers estavam se aquecendo e nós fizemos o mesmo antes de ir para a zona de partida. 2 minutos para iniciar a corrida a adrenalina começou a fluir em minhas veias, em seguida, a contagem regressiva de 10 ..
9 .. 8 .. 7 .. 6 .. 5 .. 4 .. 3 .. 2 .. 1 GO! Este foi o início de um passeio muito agradável, 85 km através de uma paisagem brasileira incrível. O ritmo era rápido desde o início e não dava para andar mais devagar. Nós pedalamos o mais forte e duro que nossas pernas agüentavam, e eu nunca terminei uma corrida de mountain bike com uma velocidade média tão alta! Os brasileiros também são muito fortes e andam o tempo todo no limite. Andamos por florestas de eucaliptos que me lembrou a Austrália, com algumas seções técnicas e algumas descidas bem rápidas. As seções de single track também foram muito agradáveis. Nós terminamos a corrida antes da chuva eu terminei com um sentimento privilegiado por ter tido a oportunidade de participar de um evento tão bem organizado em uma parte tão bonita do mundo, rodeado por amigos e pessoas com os mesmos interesses que eu. Um dia verdadeiramente especial para mim! Eu adoraria ter a oportunidade de correr novamente no Brasil.

We arrived in the town of San Luiz do Paraitinga on Saturday and I immediately loved this place.  San Luiz do Paraitinga is a little town situated on a nice river surrounded by rolling hills and forests which makes it a paradise for mountain biking.  The atmosphere in the town was typical of any town that holds a mountain bike event and the town square was filled with stands from bike stores and bike manufacturers.  Lots of mountain bikers were wandering around getting their start numbers and buying last minute items like gels and supplements for the race.  As usual everyone is very excited by the thoughts of the race and you could also feel this excitement in the air here.  To relieve some of the race nervousness and relax our legs on Saturday afternoon I rode the first 30 minutes of the race route with 3 friends, Giulliano, Katia and Luiz.  That night we went to bed early after eating a nice pasta meal.

One race day we woke up early and rode 2km from our Home Stay to the starting area.  Lots of bikers were riding around warming up and we did the same before moving to the starting area.  2 minutes to start time and the adrenalin started flowing in my veins then the countdown 10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1 GO!  This was the start of a really nice 85km ride through amazing Brazilian countryside.  The pace was fast right from the start and didn’t get any slower during the race.  We pushed as hard as our legs and bodies would go and I’ve never finished a mountain bike race with such a high average speed!  The Brazilians were also very strong riders and gave 100% all the way.  We rode through Eucalypt forests which reminded me of riding in Australia with some nice technical and also some quite fast downhill sections.  The single trail sections in the mountains were also nice to ride.  We finished the race before a storm with large black clouds moved over the race area and cooled things down temporarily.  I finished the race feeling privileged to have had the opportunity to ride in such a well organized event through a beautiful part of the world surrounded by friends and people with the same interests as me.  A truly great day for me!  I would love to have the opportunity to race again in Brazil.
